The Guardians of the Gap™ (GOTG) recently shared an update to its board member appointments. GOTG President Tony Maxwell explained the changes as a means of continuing the 501(c)(3) organization’s mission of preserving, protecting, and promoting the town of Cumberland Gap.
“When there is any kind of change in our organization, we like to get the word out and keep people informed,” Maxwell said. “We’ve got a lot of exciting things we’re working on, and we are ready to make some waves for our little town. But we’re also always looking for more volunteers to help us keep the momentum going.”
Current board appointments are:
- Tony Maxwell, President
- Grace Mahieu, Vice President
- Tammy Linn, Secretary
- Kimberley Kotlar, Treasurer
- Joe Wolfenbarger, Board Member
- Camille Hall, Board Member
- Natalie Sweet, Board Member
- Misty Gilbert, Board Member
- Heather Spade, Board Member
Maxwell says some exciting things recently made possible by the GOTG are the town’s involvement in the Tennessee Downtowns Program, the Downtown Improvement Grant (DIG), the Berkau Park Clean Up Campaign, and several wonderful festivals for the community to enjoy. All of these help to further solidify why he and the other board members work so tirelessly to get the ball rolling on such opportunities.
“Being involved in different state programs is very exciting. Acquired funds can be used to help improve so many things, such as the town buildings’ exteriors, wayfinding signage, local parks, and other improvements,” Maxwell said. “And our festivals and other activities bring locals and visitors together to share how wonderful Cumberland Gap really is. Expect more to come.”
The Guardians of the Gap is made up of volunteers who are committed to keeping Cumberland Gap shining like an East Tennessee gem. This group of people is dedicated to this endearing community, and they invite anyone and everyone to join their organization and further their mission.
